Apple Hits back at Nokia

by on Jan.19, 2010, under Downloads, Gadgets, News

Apple vs Nokia

The Apple vs Nokia Patent spat just got uglier with Apple filing a new petition with the US International Trade Commission seeking a ban on the import of Nokia devices to the US.

This move comes in a few weeks after Nokia fled a similar petition agaist Apple and also asking for a similar ban on Apple’s products in the European Union. With the latest petition from Apple, the feud between these two major phone companies seem to have reached an unforeseen level.
Both Nokia and Apple allege a lot of patent infringements on each other and allege both have copied stuff without acknowledging or paying royalties.

Nokia spokesperson Mark Durrant told Bloomberg, “Nokia will study the complaint when it is received and continue to defend itself vigorously. However this does not alter the fact that Apple has failed to agree appropriate terms for using Nokia technology and has been seeking a free ride on Nokia’s innovation since it shipped the first iPhone in 2007.”

It woud be interesting to see who wins this Clash of Titans and who will eventually have the last laugh.

Google’s Nexus One, The iPhone Killer

by on Jan.06, 2010, under Gadgets, Mobile, Technology

Possibly this is the iPhone killer you were waiting for?

We already knew this was about to coming, but now its official, let’s go ahead and do the official "launch" story!

So, the much sought after "GooglePhone", the Nexus One has been officially unveiled by Google (in chagrin with HTC) at its much talked about Android Press Event earlier today. The  phone, termed by Google as a "superphone" has the looks, the specs and the backing to take on the mighty iPhone. The specs which are the same as we had posted in our earlier stories about this device does make the phone a powerful computing device, bundled in a 11.9mm, 130gram package. The Nexus One is now officially available in the US and will soon be available in "most countries" across the globe. Officially, it is not here in India though as yet. We would be taking an in-depth look at the phone, its future prospects and if this thing really blows the iPhone away.

The unlocked Nexus would cost you a cool USD 529, (Rs.25,000) which seems to be a good price for the phone of this calibre. That by the way sure does not look like the price at which the Nexus One will arrive officially in India! That said, the current iteration of the phone does NOT support the 3G bands that will be operational in India, maybe this year only. However, Google has confirmed that more localized versions of the Nexus One is on the anvil — so we have that bit covered.

Here are all the tit bits of the killer baby.

Samsung Corby Pop Announced

by on Dec.28, 2009, under Gadgets, Mobile, Technology

Samsung Corby Pop

Samsung’s scaled down version of its existing S3650 Corby, the C3510 Corby Pop has made its official appearance at the Samsung India website.

Listed under the ‘Coming Soon’ section, it is clear that Samsung is not leaving any stone unturned with garnering as much sales as possible wit the Corby brand. Incidentally, Samsung is also launching a better spec-ed version of the Corby plus a Wi-Fi enabled version as well. The idea it seems is to cater to almost all kinds of consumers ranging from a person who would prefer a cheaper device to the one who would have wanted a few more extra features in the phone.

As for the Corby Pop, it will be a downgraded version of the Corby (not by much though). Almost all the features are the same starting from the 2.8-inch display, integrated FM radio and the UI. The camera though has taken a beating and has now dropped to a 1.3 megapixel unit. But then, the Corby isn’t far better off with its 2 megapixel cam as well. Now, the reason for the existence of the Corby Pop is obvious – Sales.

The Samsung Corby S3650 has been a hit in the Indian market thanks to its price. Samsung is just capitalising on the same and has just made the phone even cheaper. The Corby POP is expected to be priced at around the Rs. 7,000 which, is a very good price for a decent touchscreen phone.
