A good news for all the Apple iPhone fans, Apple has started to sell factory unlocked iPhone 4 at their US online store.

“Unlocked” simply means that a mobile phone is not bound to any particular carrier. In India, customers buy an Unlocked phone and easily switch between carriers by simply replacing the SIM card. Though in the U.S., the mobile phones are not sold separately they are always tied to a carrier.

The 16 GB iPhone 4 will cost US$649, while the 32 GB model will retail for $749, which is higher than it should actually retail but is cheaper than its jail broken counterparts being sold in India. A unlocked iPhone 4 used to cost around INR 40,000 in India which is quite higher than $649. So this step by Apple will prove to be a boon for international buyers.

According to Engadget, this is the box for ‘white’ Apple iPhone 4 shipped to vodafone UK. Accidentally this piece of wonder made into the hands of a lucky customer by some uninformed sales person, until vodafone sent out a email to halt sales till next week.

The all new Apple iPhone 4 have been in enough controversy in last few days. A website have reported a iPhone 4 catching fire. The brand new iPhone 4 caught on fire while being hooked up to a computer using the Apple USB cable that accompanied the device.

The phone was bought into an AT&T store in the hope of getting it repaired. However, the phone was damaged beyond repair. An Apple Store did confirm that this did appear to be a defective USB port and not a user error. According to sources the bezel of the device had got extremely hot and the USB port in the phone got melted a bit.

The owner is waiting for his phone replacement.
