Microsoft Opening Shops Right Next to Apple Stores This Fall
by admin on Jul.19, 2009, under Computer, News, Technology

Few days back rumors about Microsoft opening a retail store were confired when Microsoft named a VP of Retail Stores. David Porter comes from Dreamworks, and before that spent 25 years at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart! Doesn’t this word seems similar to a retail store?……..Yes.
Microsoft is openly acknowledging Apple’s consumer electronics threat and going for the jugular. The company’s COO Kevin Turner has officially announced that they will open their own retail stores “right next door to Apple this fall”:
And stay tuned, because we’re going to have some retail stores opened up that are opened up right next door to Apple stores this fall. Stay tuned, just stay tuned.
He said it today at the Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference keynote. His words were later confirmed by a Microsoft representative. In other words, after Apple’s success in the retail channel, Microsoft wants to fight right back right there, doing the same thing showing whatever cool things they want to show.
There are no details about the actual strategy plan except that it will start happening this fall. It’s too difficult to wait.
Is Sony Planning to Launch its own App Store?

Are the rumour’s right? There will be a Sony App Store. iPhone and iPod Touch users can download games and applications via the Apple App Store. And with the release of Sony’s new handheld system, the PSPgo, UMDs will become all but obsolete. In fact, rumor has it that Sony is planning to put in place an App Store dedicated to the PSPgo.

Destructoid has been informed by “sources close to game development” that Sony is pushing developers for smaller games and applications, best suited for download, for its PSP. Also, Sony is said to be ready to reveal this new development at gamescom in Cologne, Germany which will take place in August. Apparently the company plans on keeping the price of these “non-retail” games low-key, considerably less than retail UMDs.
The smaller games and applications are likely to be priced somewhere in the USD 2 (approx. Rs. 95) and USD 6 (approx. Rs. 290), and would have file sizes of not more than 100 MB each.
