The Amazon Kindle 2 e-book reader earlier priced at $359 is now available for $299, says Cnet. This popular device bundles up an array of features.

Kindle 2 Reader

Users can perform multiple functions with the incorporated 5-way controller. They can skip between the articles and sections of the newspaper, turn pages at a faster speed (20 percent faster from former display) and conduct accurate and easy highlight of text irrespective of its placement.

It displays sharp images and crisp text owing to the 600 x 800 pixel widescreen, wireless connectivity and the printed display format. The printed format of text is achieved by replacing backlight with real ink.

Users may choose from six text sizes, add bookmarks and notes, read personal documents such as Microsoft Word and PDF. They may also access the web pages like Wikipedia, Kindle Store and Your Kindle Library. Besides, the Kindle 2 features 2GB internal memory that enables storage of about 1,500 books.

It comes with an interesting feature called the Read-To-Me function that speaks out the written words on a page. This allows users to listen to the text if reading has resulted in boredom. It further gives an option of choosing a male or female voice to read the text. The device also incorporates the New Oxford American Dictionary with 250,000 word definitions.

With integrated Amazon Whispernet, Kindle 2 enables wireless download and receives new titles in less than a minute. It supports Sprint’s national 3G data network which eliminates the need for a PC or a Wi-Fi hot spot to access digital content. Users can easily shop for their favorite titles from over 230,000 books available in the Kindle Store or read from their library.

The Kindle 2 e-book reader is currently priced at $299 (approx Rs.14,606) on Amazon.
