by on Jul.29, 2009, under Gadgets, Mobile, Technology

We have been hearing about this one for quite a while now. After what seems to be an eternal wait, Research In Motion (RIM) has finally decided to take the covers off the BlackBerry 8250 Curve, a new addition to the BlackBerry Curve series of smartphones, with availability expected in August.

The new BlackBerry Curve 8520 is designed to be an “approachable” handset that comes in two attractive colors. For people who like to be connected, it provides easy mobile access to email, messaging (IM, SMS, MMS) and popular social networking sites (including Facebook and MySpace) and features a tactile full-QWERTY keyboard for comfortable typing. It also features multimedia capabilities and access to music, games and other mobile apps for entertainment on the go.

The BlackBerry Curve 8520 features –

  • 2.6-inch TFT Touchscreen with a 320 x 240 pixel resolution
  • Wi-Fi
  • a touch-sensitive optical trackpad
  • feature dedicated media keys (first BlackBerry smartphone to have these keys)
  • 256MB Flash memory and, microSD/SDHC memory card slot, a 512Mhz next generation processor
  • 2 megapixel camera
  • Bluetooth (2.0)
  • 3.5 mm stereo headset jack
  • DivX, XviD video support

Other key features also include voice activated dialing, BlackBerry Media Sync, which makes it easy to quickly sync music from iTunes or Windows Media Player with the smartphone and access to BlackBerry App World.

This one also comes with the trackpad instead of the standard BlackBerry trackball. The device is claimed to be Mac Ready. This is obviously owing to the recent announcement by BlackBerry to bring the BlackBerry Desktop software support to Macs.

Expect the 8520 to hit the North American landmass in about a month on T-Mobile. We have no idea about an India specific launch. We hope soon it will land in Indian markets with a affordable price tag.
